The main function of this column base is to link the column to the concrete footing surface and thereby transmit the structure's stresses to the foundation. The CBSQ uses Strong Drive SDS Heavy Duty Connector screws (included), which allow for fast installation and reduced reveal, and provide a greater net section area of the column than bolts. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the set. It seems sturdy and durable. The colors were just as pictured and very nice. The brush handle is a bit short, but that is okay. It took me a minute to get the lid flap in place, however, once I got it on it works as expected. A decent value.
